The Department of Building Construction Science at Mississippi State University is designed to prepare students for careers in construction and construction-related fields. The studio-based program is one of just two programs of its kind in the nation.

Application Process
To be eligible for building construction science scholarships at Mississippi State University, students must fill out the general scholarship application by the appropriate deadline.
BCS Women’s Forum
The BCS Women’s Forum is an organization established to support females in the Department of Building Construction Science. The group discusses obstacles faced by women in the construction industry and supports networking and mentorship opportunities. All students are welcome to join.
A Student Organization of
Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) – Student Chapter
The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Student Chapter is a university-affiliated student organization for building construction science, architecture, and engineering majors. This organization is responsible for helping plan and run events for the Building Construction Science Program such as skeet shoots, career fairs, lunch-and-learns, and several other opportunities for students to connect and network with companies. ABC is also responsible for helping promote the ethical standards set forth in being a construction professional.

Studio learning is a unique experience, and the Mississippi State University Department of Building Construction Science provides a supportive environment for personal growth and professional development.
One big advantage of studio learning is it allows for more students to have more one-on-one time with professors.
Computer Requirements
The ¹ú²úBT Department of Building Construction Science requires all students to purchase a laptop (with related software and peripherals) by the start of the semester the students enroll in BCS 1116 Building Construction Science Studio A.
Software used in the building construction fields have minimum system requirements that must be addressed carefully. Most software used in the studio and supporting classes is upgraded yearly. It is likely that you may need to upgrade the machine (in two years) and possibly replace it in 3-4 years.
Building Construction Science Cooperative Education and Internships
Co-Op and Internship Opportunities
Undergraduate students who are working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in building construction science are supported and encouraged to obtain paid summer internships and cooperative education positions with construction companies to enhance their classroom experiences. These opportunities are available to students any semester (summer, fall, or spring) prior to graduation. Construction career fairs are held each fall and spring semester to facilitate connections with firms.
